Do You Know Your Face Shape?

You might be saying what is she talking about? Well this is important when you apply your makeup. The shape that you should strive for is Oval but we can not all be blessed with this shape. I myself am a Square. The other shapes are Round, Heart, Pear and Long.

How can you tell what shpe you are? The best way is to pull your hair completly out of your face, stand in front of the mirror and trace your face shape onto the mirror with a grease pencil or lipstick.

Ovals are symmetrical. It is usually broader at the cheeks, tapering slightly at the forehead and chin. Rounds are generally shorter with full cheeks and a round chin. Squares have the same width at the forehead, cheeks and the jaw. Hearts are wider at eh forehead and pointed or narrow at the chin. Pears are narrow at the forehead and wider at the jawline. Longs have the high cheekbones, a high deep forhead and a sharp chiseled jawline.

Now that you know the differences in the shapes lets talk how we acheive the Oval look.

The Ovals out there you shouldn't need to contour or highlight because your face is already symmetrical. But you can play.

For the Square people you need to apply Bronzer(lightly) at the temples and at the jawlines starting from the corners. Apply your Highlighting Powder down the center of your forehead, underneath your eyeas and the tip of your chin. Apply your cheek color just to the apples of your cheeks to draw attention away from your corners.

Now for the Rounds-Highlight your forehead, underneath the eyes on top of the cheekbones and the center of your chin to draw attention to the center of your face. Countour your temples, cheeks and jawline.

The Heart shape apply Highlighter to the chin to help broaden it. Highlight the middle of the forehead and underneath the eyes on top of the cheekbones. Contour your temples and cheeks to diminish the width portion of the face.

Pear shaped you need to Highlight your forehead and under your eyes on top of the cheekbones and the tip of your chin. Contour the jawline and cheeks to minimize width.

Long you NEVER highlight or contour because this will make your face look longer than it is. You can brush a little Bronzer across your chin. Be generous with the cheek color and apply it to the apples of your cheeks. Bangs will also help to shorten the face.

Join me next time when we will discuss Foundation, Concealor and Powder.
